Back On Track; ’Sters Best SunRays 7-5

By Jalen Kang

After dropping back-to-back games coming out of the CCL all-star break, the Foresters got back on track with a commanding 7-5 victory over the San Diego SunRays on Saturday evening.

It was a tight contest through six innings, with the ’Sters leading 3-2 on the back of a great start by Ty Baker.

Baker was electric in his second start of the season, inducing swings and misses all outing. He finished with a final line of 5 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 R (none earned), and 9 K’s.

Jackson Freeman just missed a homer in the fifth inning but settled for an RBI double that broke the 2-2 tie before the ’Sters turned in a huge seventh inning.

In the seventh, Jonah Sebring kicked off the hit parade with a no-doubt solo homer, his fourth of the season. The next seven ’Sters reached base with six singles and a walk to add needed insurance, with Jonny Rodriguez driving in one and Augie Lopez plating two more to make it 7-2.

“Just like any other day,” Sebring said.

“[Today I] had discipline, laid off the pitches I didn’t wanna hit, got some pitches to hit and didn’t miss it… It’s awesome coming out to the field every day with all my teammates and being able to play for a coach like Bill,” said Sebring.

Capitalizing in the seventh turned out to be huge in the ballgame as the SunRays found 3 runs in their last ups, but Brady Spencer battled and shut the door in the ninth.

Win the win tonight, the ’Sters put themselves in great position to end the season on a winning streak ahead of the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas. Come out to Eddie Mathews Field and celebrate the last game of the 2024 season tomorrow, July 21 at 2 p.m. against the MLB Academy Barons.
