For the first time in 2018, the Foresters trailed in a game. Shocking! The shock was on the other foot, however, when the Sters racked up a five-spot in the seventh inning to seal a come-from-behind 7-3 win over the SoCal Catch.
On their way to an 11-0 start to the season, the Foresters fell behind 3-0 in the second on the road. A pair of Chase Illig homers got them back to within one. Meanwhile, Hunter Breault, Miles Sandum, and Bailey Reed shut down the Catch offense. Reid recorded all of his six outs by strikeout (though he did need to get the sixth one with the bases loaded in the seventh).
Buoyed by their staff’s solid work, the Foresters offense finally kicked it open. With the bases loaded, Illig got his third RBI of the night on a groundout to tie the score. Tyler Hardman then clocked a clutch two-out single to score two more. Andrew Wiss, in his final game before returning to the Air Force Academy, tripled in two insurance runs. (Worth noting also is the the other departing Falcon/Forester, Christian Gambale, had a key pinch-hit early in the seventh-inning rally.)
Chase Wallace survived a scare in the ninth to wrap up Santa Barbara W No. 11.
The two teams play again on Thursday. Hear all the action starting at 5 pm on AM 1290.
