July 8: Foresters v. Crawdads Box Score
Everything was coming up Sters, as they slaughtered the Walnut Creek Crawdads 12-0. The game, well under three hours, as the runs started pouring in after countless errors from the Crawdad infield. The true hero of the night, Rice University’s Parker Smith was electric, pitching for seven scoreless innings and has now allowed only one run within his last 19 on the mound. The relievers, Jake Faherty and Nick Proctor, stayed reliable, finishing out the game.
The Sters didn’t heat up until the 5th, but once they did, there was no looking back. Kevin Bazzell opened up the 6 run inning with a double, Gianni Horvat advancing to third, and pushing Austin Stracener and Payton Tolle home, as Santa Barbara’s best hitter of the season continues to be the best. Tanner O’Tremba advanced to first after a third base error, as Bazzell and Gianni came home, the score now 3-0. Gavin Kash and Ensley got on base as another error and a wild pitch allowed for both Kash and O’Tremba to run home, the inning ending 6-0.
The Foresters got hot again in the 7th, with another four runs. With a Kash double and an error by the third baseman, O’Tremba tacked on a run. With a Hunter Ensley single, Kash scored, making it 8-0. Horvat came to the plate and a wild pitch saw Tolle advance to second, Stracener advance to second and Jack Holman adding another run to the inning. Stracener crossed home plate as after a fly out from Horvat. This continued in the next inning, as a double from Kash put him at second and Bazzell at third after a walk. With a wild pitch, Bazzell scored and Kash got on third. With an Ensley single, Kash ran home as the last run of the night, much to the Crawdad’s relief, as the scoring finally stopped.
