Foresters Set February 8
for Annual Hot Stove Banquet
Hugs for Cubs kids Cooper Adams and Sam Helfand (and the entire Foresters team) invite you to join them for the 2015 Hot Stove Banquet! (Yes, that’s a stove in the picture, but the Fire Department said it shouldn’t be too hot!) On Sunday, February 8, the Foresters welcome special guest RYAN SPILBORGHS as well as new Foresters Hall of Fame inductees VIRGIL VASQUEZ, MIKE PEARL, and NEIL MEDCHILL. As always, the annual event will feature outstanding food from local eateries, along with a great silent and live auction of sports memorabilia and other great items. It’s all to help the Foresters continue their winning tradition . . . five national championships in 11 seasons, including the 2014 NBC World Series!
Ryan Spilborghs grew up in Santa Barbara, starring for S.B. High and UCSB before enjoying a long Major League career as an outfielder with the Colorado Rockies. Ryan is now a broadcaster for that club.
Virgil Vasquez is another local success story. Another S.B. High School and UCSB star, he pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers (he also played in Australia and Mexico). Virgil is starting a new career as a pitching coach in the Minnesota Twins organization.
Mike Pearl has been with the Foresters longer than any volunteer except manager Bill Pintard. Mike not only is a former board president for the team, he’s still on the board helping out. He’s also a longtime supporter and coach for many youth and high school teams in the area.
Neil Medchill played outfield for the 2008 National Championship team and played a big part in that team’s success. Neil has gone to a pro career in the New York Yankees organization. He has also carried the spirit of Hugs for Cubs forward, recently volunteering to donate blood marrow to help save a man’s life.

The 2014 Hall of Fame Banquet will be Sunday, February 8, beginning at 6 pm at the Earl Warren Showgrounds main building.
