A great Opening Day crowd enjoyed a sunny evening of baseball, a pitcher’s duel, and a 1-0 win by the Foresters over the San Diego Waves as the ’Sters begin their defense of their 2018 National Championship. How fitting that third-year ’Ster Ryan Cash delivered the game’s only RBI on a sac fly in the eighth inning and fellow 2018 champ Conner Woods closed out the game for the save.

“Cash is the same as money,” said manager Bill Pintard. “He showed why he is a money player. I don’t think there was any question that he was going to bring that run in from third in the eighth.”

Cash was not the only hero, as five Foresters pitchers, led by starter Garret Clarke, allowed only five hits to the Waves. A particular highlight was a strikeout by Dylan Kelley in the seventh with the bases loaded.

“What a great opening night for our team,” added Pintard. “We had a group of young guys step up and pitch well.” He also noted Tommy Holguin of SBCC with two hits in the game.

The Foresters wrap up the short series with the Waves on Saturday at 6 pm at Pershing Park.
