Player pitching

By Emma del Sol

Sam Odom was on point in his second start of the season today as the ‘Sters beat the Menlo Park Legends 10-5, giving Coach Bill Pintard his 800th win as head coach and manager of the Foresters. Pintard is one of only a few coaches in summer ball to ever reach this milestone and no one deserves it more than he does. Pintard has a lot more wins left in him and we can’t wait for the next milestone.

The ‘Sters scored first in the bottom of the first inning off of two singles and a walk. On a 2-1 pitch, leadoff batter Colt Atwood singled to left. Ford Stainback worked a 0-2 count into a walk. Granger Studdard, the next batter, had a single up the middle bringing home Atwood, putting the ‘Sters on the board.

The Foresters added on an extra insurance run in the fifth after David Greer singled and was brought home by a groundout from Atwood.

‘Sters bats were on fire again in the sixth inning scoring six more runs with one out. Studdard had his second hit of the game, this time a double. On the first pitch of his at bat AJ Balta had a single up the middle bringing home Studdard. Greer then had a double down the third baseline bringing home Boswell, who was hit by a pitch and Balta.           L Grant Davis brought home two more runs on a double to right and Atwood added the sixth run of the game with a sac fly to right.

The ‘Sters weren’t done after the sixth, scoring two more runs in the seventh off a triple from Bret Boswell and a sac fly from Balta.

Sam Odom was lights out in seven innings, giving up three hits, no runs and striking out two while earning the win. David Graybill and Cody Van Aken each pitched an inning of relief for the ‘Sters.

Today’s EP Beverage Player of the Game goes to Coach Bill Pintard for his outstanding coaching, leadership, and dedication to this organization. Coach Pintard was celebrated on the field after the Foresters win. Surrounded by the Forester family, Pintard was honored by current players, board members, and fans and received accolades from former players who could not be in attendance.

Coach Pintard goes for win number 801 tomorrow as the ‘Sters look to sweep the Menlo Park Legends. First pitch is at 1:00 pm.
