Well, it had to happen sometime. The Foresters (15-1) dropped their first game of the season, held in check by a succession of great pitching performances by the Healdsburg Prune Packers. A trio of Packers shut out the ’Sters, 3-0. The Foresters uncharacteristically struck out 15 times on the game and had only five hits.

Tanner Bibee started for Santa Barbara and gave up a pair of runs, one of which came due to an infield error. He left trailing 2-0 after three innings, and subsequent ’Sters pitchers James Notary, Bailey Reed, and Brad Demco allowed only one more run. Healdsburg, though, had already scored enough to win, as the Foresters could not string together enough hits—even with three errors by the home team—to score.

The teams continue their series on Wednesday with the only scheduled doubleheader of the 2018 season. The first game begins at 3 pm and can be heard on newspress.com (click on the link at the top of this Foresters page for “live radio”). The second game will begin 30 minutes after the first, probably about 6 pm; that game will be heard online AND on AM 1290.
