‘Sters Stall Saints—Take Advantage of Costly Mistakes, win 7-3 in Pasadena

By Aidan O’Neill

In their second clash with the Saints this summer, the ‘Sters defeated Arroyo Seco, 7-3, on Wednesday evening in Pasadena.

Following an 8-7 winner, Santa Barbara’s offense continued to keep their foot on the gas. After Daniel Patterson reached via walk in the first inning, the slugging first baseman, Jack Holman, hit a towering two-run blast with an electrifying bat flip once the ball was in orbit—the definition of a no-doubter.

In the second inning, the Foresters kept on rolling. Catapulted by Jonny Rodriguez being plunked by a fastball, the ‘Sters put pressure on the Saints defense. Kaden Petersen followed up by grounding a supposed 6-4-3 double play to the shortstop that was booted for an error. This was the first of four errors for the Saints in the ballgame. After Petersen, Jackson Freeman utilized “small ball” and laid down a supposed sacrifice bunt that was fielded and overthrown by the starting pitcher Coby Minchey. A run scored as the wheels began to fall off for the Saints, with Patterson’s 2 RBI single adding two more runs. The ‘Sters led 7-0.

The pitching held down the 7-run lead, aside from a bases-clearing double by Easton Elliot in the bottom of the 6th that gave the Saints their only 3 runs of the contest. The ‘Sters worked by committee, throwing 5 pitchers throughout the game. Payton Gubler got the start, twirling 3.1 innings while commanding the off-speed for strikes. Holland, Wendt, Fraser, and Rogers rolled in out of the bullpen and kept the big lead intact.

“We’ve got to string together 4 or 5 wins in a row,” said Manager Bill Pintard. “Our pitching staff is going to be loaded”.

Confidence continues to surround the Foresters organization as their best baseball will be unlocked soon. They’ll open up a four-game home stand tomorrow afternoon at Eddie Matthews Field at 4:30 p.m. vs. the Alameda Merchants.
