BOX SCORE

While Foresters’ pitching carried the team through its first five victories, Sters’ bats really came alive Sunday in a 16-2 defeat of the OC Riptide to give Santa Barbara a weekend sweep and run their record to a perfect 6-0. Catcher Jeremy Montalbano led the way with four hits and four RBI, including a solo  home run in the fifth. DH Granger Studdard scored four times, and third baseman Dillon Paul scored three times and knocked in three runs (and also stole two bases). Meanwhile, five ‘Sters pitchers, led by starter Keaton Siomkin’s three scoreless innings, continued the team’s outstanding mound performance, allowing only two runs while striking out 11. After six straight wins, Santa Barbara’s team ERA is 0.96.

While Siomkin bottled up the Riptide early, Sters bats did the damage, scoring at least one run in each of the first seven innings, capped by a six-spot in the sixth. Riptide pitchers didn’t help their cause, walking seven Foresters and hitting three more, three of which came with the bases loaded. Every Foresters starter except one had a hit, and eight different Foresters drove in at least one run.

The Foresters are back in action on Tuesday as they continue CCL play against the Neptune Beach Pearl. First pitch at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium is 5:05 pm. The game will be live on AM 1290 KZSB and on newspress.com as well.  —Jim Buckley
