’Sters Twirl Opening Day Two-hit Gem, led by Bixby’s Brilliant Start–Win 2-0

By Aidan O’Neill

In a pitchers duel that carried a scoreless game into the top of the 8th, the Foresters willed
themselves to victory in San Luis Obispo on Saturday evening.

Mason Bixby got the ball in his Foresters debut and did not disappoint, throwing 4 innings of no hit baseball and striking out 7.

“We pitched our tails off today,” Bixby said. “Just going out there and competing and giving our team a chance to win was a blast”.

The Foresters bullpen of Lewis, Fields, and Rogers followed up by only allowing 2 hits of no run
baseball, keeping the ‘Sters stagnant offense in the game.

The tide shifted in the top of the 8th.

Sparked by a lead off bunt by SS Drew Markle, the line kept on moving. A costly error by the
Blues CF resulted in a rally, allowing for the Foresters to plate 2 runs in the innings.

The Blues set the table in the 9th inning with a bases loaded rally of their own in their only
offensive threat of the day, but the ‘Sters held strong, dismissing the late effort with more
scoreless pitching.

“Our guys stepped up,” said Manager Bill Pintard. “The pitching was outstanding… they were tossing up 0’s all day”.

Although the Foresters offense was stagnant, Pintard is hopeful that they will turn it around.

“We’re going to be able to swing the bats,” he said.

The Foresters host the Ventura Pirates in their home opener on Sunday looking to build off of
their momentum.

“I hope we can put on a good show for the people,” Pintard said.

A new era of ‘Sters baseball begins tomorrow at Eddie Matthews field. First pitch is at 2pm.
