BOX SCORE

By Jim Buckley: On a night when the Foresters thanked and paid tribute to the 2021 Host Families (listed at bottom), the team played host to the last home game of the season and won 4-1 over the Saints, extending their winning streak to 15 games.

Ben Abram was his usual excellent self, moving his record to 5-0 with seven innings of work. He allowed a single run and struck out nine. He also walked none, which means in his Santa Barbara summer, he has 53 strikeouts and only four walks . . . total. Ian Churchill pitched a scoreless eighth and then Nick “The Doctor” Proctor paid a house call, striking out the side to earn his team-best fourth save.

The Foresters kept a big crowd on the edge of their seats, saving the drama for the late innings. They trailed early and didn’t tie the game at 1-1 until the sixth, when they took advantage of a Saints error.

In the seventh, the Sters moved ahead on a Seth Stevenson single and an Andrew Kachel double to take a 3-1 lead. They added a run in the eighth when Jared Thomas scored on a wild pitch.

Santa Barbara has one more CCL game on Sunday, at the OC Riptide, before the mighty ’Ster Bus heads east to Wichita. Consider donating to the Wichita Fun, please, and stay tuned here and on Facebook and Twitter for updates on NBC schedules.
