The Foresters Drop Back-to-Back Games Against Blues in Independence Day Battle

By Cole Walker

On a beautiful 4th of July day, it seemed as if the Foresters just couldn’t muster up enough strength to fight back after an early offensive showing from San Luis Obispo as they fell 9-4 to the Blues Thursday afternoon.

The Blues jumped out to an early 3-0 lead following an explosive first inning at the plate. SLO continued to showcase their bats, adding a single run in the top of the second, and tacking on two more in the third.

Following the Blues hit parade, the ‘Sters found themselves in a 6-run hole and without much momentum headed into the fifth.

Despite this, the Foresters were able to string together multiple big hits courtesy of both lead-off batter Daniel Patterson, who knocked a strong single into left, and center fielder Drew

Markle, who scorched a ball into deep center field for a stand up double. Kaden Peterson then decided to make a statement and slapped a perfectly placed ball through the infield for a 2 run RBI single.

This fight unfortunately proved to be useless in the end with the Blues laying the hammer down in the sixth, tacking on another late game run, as well as putting more crooked numbers up in both the eight and the ninth.

The ‘Sters attempted to crawl their way back into the game with a late ninth inning push, which was highlighted by a Will Rogers solo home run, and a Jessie DiMaggio RBI, which came after a Jack Bollinger pinch hit triple. This rally ended early though with the next batter being retired
that ended the contest.

The ‘Sters hope to bounce back tomorrow as the team will travel south to take on the Conejo Oaks. Listen to the game live on the Santa Barbara Foresters YouTube channel, first Pitch is at 4:00pm.
