BOX SCORE

By Jim Buckley: They say that all good things must end, and on Thursday, the Foresters’ season-opening five-game win streak did just that. A series of San Luis Obispo Blues pitchers silenced the Foresters’ heretofore potent bats and Santa Barbara lost its first game of the season, 5-0.

The Foresters managed only four hits and struck out a season-high 13 times. For the first time all season, they were held without a stolen base as well.

The Blues struck first, scoring on an Austin Schell single in the first. San Luis added a run in the fifth, but a terrific relay throw from Kade Higgins to Andrew Kaychel to Noah Rombach cut down another run at the plate on the play. The Foresters defense did the same in the sixth, as Higgins once again pegged a runner at home, this time skipping the relay for a direct throw to Rombach to nail a sliding Nick Costello of the Blues.

However, in the seventh, San Luis broke the game open with a three-run homer by Ryan Cermak. Santa Barbara could not rally late, and took its first loss.

The Foresters will try to get back on the winning track on Friday with a road game at the Conejo Oaks starting at 4:30 pm on AM 1290 KZSB. The Foresters are back at home on Saturday at 6 and and Sunday at 2.
